Launch of the Youth Employability Programme in Kosovo

Official launch of the programme in Kosovo took place in Hotel Grand in Prishtina on 6th June 2008. More than 50 guests from Kosovo and Macedonia were present and 3 largest TV stations covered the event.
Launch was organised in cooperation and with the support of local Studio Moderna office. Besides BCYF and Studio Moderna representatives, one of the keynote speakers was Erion Veliaj, BCYF Board member who presented BCYF and supported this initiative.

In response to the strikingly high youth unemployment rate in Kosovo, Balkan Children and Youth Foundation creates a strong change and improve the quality of life of young people in Kosovo by offering adequate programme that will make an impact on the society and reduce the unemployment of youth.

In order to complete this work, the program is seeking to expand to the region. Kosovo was a logical choice having in mind the highest rate of unemployment in the region and the fact that it is the close neighbour in Macedonia where this programme and the presence of Studio Moderna branch in Kosovo.
Having the similar aims as the programme in Macedonia, the programme for Kosovo would be slightly different than the first pilot Macedonian programme, based on some lessons learnt in Macedonia and other countries in the region where BCYF implements different programmes on youth employment and entrepreneurship. The programme in Kosovo is intended to start end of September 2007, beginning of October, with 3 main components:

  1. Matching young interns with companies and institutions for the internship length up to 3 months

  2. Providing grants for the training providers for implementing employability trainings

  3. Providing small start-up loans for youth initiated and led businesses, and training young people how to develop their business ideas

It is also planned to organize at least 2 Business Leaders Forums in order to inform and motivate business leaders to support this programme and employment of youth and act as mentors in the small-loans programme.
